How does ethnocentrism cause conflict?

How does ethnocentrism cause conflict?
Ethnocentricity causes conflict, because one's view to other cultures, especially language, religion or customs is differnent from one's culture.In the movie 'First Austailans', the British ethnocentric view of the First Autralians influenced the two cultures and caused te war. When the British first reached to Australia and met the aboriginals, they viewed the aboriginals as fericious and barbarous animals and uncivilized country. Many years ago, when Australia was not developed, there were people called the 'First Australians' or 'Aboriginals'. They were navites and lived in unciviled land. However, later on Australia, the British came. They knew the aborignals were different to them, for instance, their appearances, traditions or language. In addition, such views of the First Australians showed the ethnocentrism of the Britsh is that they took the land of the Firt Australians, because they knew the aboriginals didn't have their own houses, which means they were not civilized. Also, the British treated the aboriginals kind in an ironic way to conquer their land. As the British viewed the First Australins as the animals, they must not own their land. From this ethnocentric viewpoint, conflict resulted between the British and the First Australians ethnocentrictity are that the British stole the aboriginal's nature and houses. Yet, the First Australians thought that it is unfair to steal everything from them. By this ethnocentricism, a lot of aboriginals' cultures, custums and traditions are damaged, because of the British people. Therefore, they were forced to speak English, and never speak their own language. Also, many children of the aboriginals who were castes (half aboriginal half Britain) were kidnapped forcefully from the mothers. In these cases, the aboriginals coundn't do anything, because they were too weak to fight agianst the strong British. However, they still thought it is unfair to take away everything from them, even their precious children. In conclusion, I think ethnocentrism cause conlfict, all because in this case many people have steroetypes that the natives should not be treated as humans but animals. Also, I think British never seen people who were like that before, therefore the British though they should treat the aboriginals like them. In my opinion, the conflict caused between the First Australians and British because they had different viewpoints.

Julius Caesar Performance Assessment- Duet

Content
In this passage, Caesar and his wife Calpurnia is talking about going out to senate at their house. She warns her husband not to go out and tells about what she dreamed about last night. Yet, Caesar insists that he will not go.

Meaning and Significance of the Passage
This passage is the most significant part in this entire play, because it has the main forshadowing and it also shows both Caesar and Calpurnia's characters. This conversation between Caesar and Calpurnia is mostly cautious and giving some heavy mood through Calpurnia's dream. In her dream, she uses a lot of fearful imageries and metaphors connected to Caesar's death to convince him not to go out to Senate. Even though this weak woman tries everything to persuade her husband, Caesar doesn't listen to what she says. She fears about her husband's death, but as she has weak mind and body, she can't do anything to her powerful husband. In addition, this part shows Caesar's arrogance and fearless character that he has right to choose his own way. Because of this arrogant character of Caesar, it forshadows that he is going to be killed by the conspiritors.

Act 2 Scene 2 (line 8~37 before a sevant enters)

CALPURNIA What mean you, Caesar? think you to walk forth?
You shall not stir out of your house to-day.

CAESAR Caesar shall forth: the things that threaten'd me
Ne'er look'd but on my back; when they shall see
The face of Caesar, they are vanished.

CALPURNIA Caesar, I never stood on ceremonies,
Yet now they fright me. There is one within,
Besides the things that we have heard and seen,
Recounts most horrid sights seen by the watch.
A lioness hath whelped in the streets;
And graves have yawn'd, and yielded up their dead;
Fierce fiery warriors fought upon the clouds,
In ranks and squadrons and right form of war,
Which drizzled blood upon the Capitol;
The noise of battle hurtled in the air,
Horses did neigh, and dying men did groan,
And ghosts did shriek and squeal about the streets.
O Caesar! these things are beyond all use,
And I do fear them.

CAESAR What can be avoided
Whose end is purposed by the mighty gods?
Yet Caesar shall go forth; for these predictions
Are to the world in general as to Caesar.

CALPURNIA When beggars die, there are no comets seen;
The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes.

CAESAR Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard.
It seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come.

Learning Profile

Today, our humanities class are tested with Mr. Whiting about what kind of learner we are. Every people have one pair of brains which work differently -gestalt and logic. Mostly, gestalt people are more musical, artistic or active. However, that doesn't mean that logic people are not musical, artistic or active, but they're are more logical on them. There are many profiles between logic and gestalt and mine is L, which thought to be the Einstein profile. People who got profile L have good balance of art and music skills. Also, they will benefit from sitting where the place quite and can focus on one thing when they are not disturbed by others. In addition, it is interesting to learn about myself by using what kind of learner I am.

As a profile L learner, I can learn best myself in many different ways. Firstly, I learn best when I viewing any big visualizations by focusing on that pictures. In addition, I learn best through movements like dancing or sports. Also, I can learn much easier when I concentrate on one thing, but it only works unless no one disturbs me. Therefore, I need a quite and peaceful place to work alone, expecially when I combine new ideas in my brain. However, when I am in understressed, I cannot access my dominant hemispere with sensory enter, which means most of my work cannot be done when I am stressed. On the other hand, when relaxed I can more easily access gestalt integration than the others. Thus, when I'm relaxed, I may see, hear and communicate the details of information easily. As a result, to learn my best, I should be relaxed to myself, see a lot of pictures which can understand me more simply and need to see many movements.

After learning what my learner profile is, I now realized a lot of my characteristics of me and my profile. First, I need to move while processing inside of mind with less external sensory. As I have some difficulty having communication and start having hard times express in different language-English when I am understressed. To avoid these problems, I must try myself to be relaxed and comfort, so that I can communicate better with other people. In contrast, when I am totally relaxed, everything goes good, and especially movements tend to be fluid and entertaining. On the other hand, I realized that I prefer not to follow step-by-step instructions. Mostly, I start something by imagining the end results and then intuitively doing when seem appropriate. I think it is interesting to know what my characteristics are.

There are some strategies that can help my life to succeed. My first goal to succed is to be more comfortable on myself. To solve this problem, I can play some activities like, writing, drawing with the non-dominant hand, walking, dancing and much more. I also want to be more focused on one thing. Therefore, I can do Brain Gym and blinking while tracking with the eyes which makes my brain fresh and more concentrated on one thing. In addition, some more strategies that would help in my learning is to sit where I can process internally and move without disturbing others. Also, the balance of art, music and movement skills will be highly beneficial to my life to succeed, because as a gestalt learner, I am better at these moving activities.

Through this test I learned a lot of facts about myself and the characters of me. However, I some information about me that teacher should know too! I would like my teacher to know that I work better when I am relaxed. Also, I can easily communicate with others in details when I am comfortable with them. In addition, my profile is at great disadvantage under stress. So, I appreciates metaphoes, examples and associations when problem solving. I really hope that teachers learned about me well.

To sum up, in these days, I really wanted to know about me. But my curiousities are now gone through the dominace factor. I thank a lot to Mr. Whiting to let me know what my characteristics are. Next time, when I am understressed, I am going to try my best to e relaxed myself to work on my projects well. Also, I will do some activities to let my brains go fresh. I feel good now that I know my own characters!

How Does Art Mirror Society?

The painting named 'The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp' is an oil on canvas painting, which was painted by Rembrandt van Rijn in 1632, during the Renaissance period. This picture reflects the Renaissance of the science by looking at the laying body with separated arm and the people's facial expressions in this piece of art. During the Renaissance, many scientists started wondering about how the human body actually looks like. In this picture, people's facial expressions show that they are curious on what they are doing- the dissection of the human arm. Also, the knife held by the Dr. Tulp shows that he already started to find the answer of scientists’ question. Moreover, we can also infer that the scientists were allowed to have an anatomy lesson during that period. This changed the world right now. Nowadays, we can have surgery whenever we are sick, because we now know about the human body a lot more than past. In addition, this action of the people is also connected to the new knowledge of the people. It is because by having the new lessons, they had an opportunity to get lots of information. In conclusion, the past information could effect later world with more detailed information and experiments.

Driving Forces of the Renaissance

I think Trading and Banking was the most driving forces of the Renaissace, which led the people to have a lot of knowledges and curiosities about many variaties of architectures, sciences or explorations.

Object Writing

"Can you stop scratching your own skin? Your hurting yourself and me! If you keep sratching, your legs are going to be two standing red-colored baseball bats!"

I talk, because I am the head of YooDam Son's skin cell.I know it's kind of disgusting that cell talks. You know, I have never had chance to talk to my illiterate owner. I always wanted to complain and grumble at her. However, for some reasons, I just shouted to my her, who still doesn't know where the voice is coming from. All my brothers and sisters cry and scream and shout everyday and they're bleeding. The reason why they are bleeding is that my owner scratches everywhere on her body. I was also hurt by her and it's really painful. I could feel my blood falling down from inside. The weeks ago, I was pretty white, whiter than her mom's skin. Yet, me and my siblings became a brownies. This is such a cruel and violent for us, because she started to scratch her whole body!

The other thing that is really, really, super important to tell her is that stop drawing on the body. This advice is for my precious and pretty owner and my best friends and family. She has.. no must know what is going to happen if she keeps doing that to us. It is very simple to tell my owner and the people who read this, 'It will harm you and your awesome important cells,' that's all what she has to remember.

All my wishes were to advice her to do these things. I am satisfied myself about it. Although I had not much time to talk with her, I enjoyed advicing her! It was awesome for me, I think this is one of my great experience in my life. I could be the one cell who talked with thier owner. haha

Letter to my parents

Dear Parents,

Hello, welcome to my portfolio conference, I think this is second time I'm talking with you about my protfolio. Now, I am going to show all my school work in this portfolio. You are going to see what I did in every classes, like humanities, science, math, wheel (art) and electives (band and languages). Also, you might see my reflections in some classes. Therefore, I am going to tell you about my order of class and project, and how I used them. And then, I will talk to you what were my challenges and what I need to work on and did well.

I am going to show the order of my portfolio and classes, and here is the content and there are order. It is divided as electives, math, science, humanities, and wheel. I did a lot of projects in this year, but what I really want to show is my math project called 'Stake Out!'. This project is about the comic books that has stolen by the thief and we have to get him by percent. And I uesd Learn Enthusiastically in this project, becuase I knew how to use the percent with the group and percentage. I think you might not know what does 'Learn Enthusiasticall', and it is one of the school SLR. There are Reason Critically, LearnEnthusiastically, Live Ethically, Collabrate Contrustively, Think Creatively, and Comminicate Effectively.

I have big challenges this year, and they are that I can speak english well than last year and you might know that I've got many frineds this year. However, I know that I really need to read many books to get more friends and good English skills. And the things that I did well in this year is science. I started to like science better than the others, but I like the others too, not like science.

Now, you just hear all about my portfolio and how I worked in portfolio. Thank you for hearing me and coming. I hope you knew something new about me by this conference. Thanks a lot.

Sincerly, YooDam
