Learning form your mistakes makes you better person
The short story “Thank You Ma’am” by Langston Huges was about the boy named Roger who turned into a different person after he met the black woman Luella Bates Washington Jones. He tried to steal Luella’s purse. However, she caught him to her house and told that she did bad things too when she was young. He was trying to run away but after, she treated him with kindheartedness he trusted her. Such as, washing his face, giving him food and telling him to behave himself well. From these generous conducts by Luella, Roger turned into a new person. So, he would decide not to steal thing again. This story told us about the theme ‘Learning from your mistake makes you a better person’. The theme is related to the quote ‘He barely managed to say “Thank You” before she shut the door. And he never saw her again.’ He thanked to Luella in his mind, but couldn’t say thank you. He might feel bad about he couldn’t say thank you out loud to her. At this point of the story, we can infer that the person could change into different person by the generous acts. Also, we could know that if person like Luella can assist when a person like Roger made a mistake.

A mistake can change a person’s whole life. In the movie clip ‘Make a Difference’, the protagonist, Miss Thompson was a fifth grade teacher who changed a difference to her student Teddy Stallard. Teddy had a widowed dad, who was not interested in his son. He did not participate well in the class, distracted his classmates and was very dirty. And the teacher didn’t really care about that boy too. One day, Miss Thompson looked at the reports about her students. Then she found out that Teddy was an active boy before his mother died. “Miss Thompson realized the problem and ashamed of herself. And she paid particular attention to Teddy”. From then, Teddy’s life started to change although there was just a little more of interests and cares. After years later, he became a doctor and had a marriage with a woman he loved. He invited Miss Thompson for his wedding. Teddy said that she was a best teacher he ever met. And Miss Thompson said, “Teddy you have it all wrong. You were the one who taught me that I could make a difference. I didn’t know how to teach until I met you”. This quotation is showing them the relationship of the theme. It shows that the mistake can make a person better by showing compassion and care. Miss Thompson learned the real role of teacher to the students after she met Teddy.

By mistake, you can still be a good person, because the mistake leads you to the right way. If the person makes you change into the different person, even though it is bad thing to steal things from someone, you will certainly change. I think teaching with compassion and treating with a kindheartedness make the person understand. Yet, in an opposite way, it could be hard to teach someone if you don’t have any enthusiasm and love to care. So, making mistake is good to have.

Betrayal can lead to vengeance

The theme ‘Betrayal can lead to vengeance’ can tell about a character Mary Maloney in "Lamb to the Slaughter". Mary Maloney was a perfect housewife for her husband Patrick Maloney. She did everything for him- filling his empty cigarette box, putting cold water and wine for his dried throat after the tired work, tidying up the whole house and preparing the nice dinner for him. She just loved the way to serve him with whole love. One day, however, Patrick brought all the bad moods to home with tiredness and sat on the chair, talked with his lovely housewife Mary. Mary was shocked to hear that her loved husband wanted to have a conversation with her. A one word 'Divorce' made Mary crazy. Then, she brought the frozen lamb's leg that was for his dinner, and hit on his head as hard as she could. This is the vengeance of what he got after he betrayed Mary.

Betrayal also comes from the real world. In the article from BBC, there is a news named "'Honour Killing' Relatives Guilty" about a woman named Benaz Mahmod, who was killed by her father, Mahmod Mahmod and uncle Ari Mahmod. Soem way, they felt betrayal from their daughter. She had brought her boyfriend to have a permission of their marriage one day. However, her family didn't want her to marry with him. Benaz's boyfriend was threated by her dad and uncle, and she was killed by them. This part is related to the theme, because Benaz's father and uncle could be Mary Maloney and Benaz, who murdered by them could be Patrick Maloney. Then her body was buried in the ground inside the suitcase. Yet, the police officers discovered that she had disappeared and they found her dead body after three months. After that, police men probed them. This part relates to the story where Mary lies to the police men. They said that they were also regreting why did the kill her. Mary Maloney might feel that way too. In addition, her father Mahmod Mahmod said that his life went away after Benaz died.

As you can see, betrayal seriously can lead to vegeance in both story and the real world. In the case of Mary Maloney, she made a horrible mistake that she killed one life. Also, in the case of Benaz's dad brought Benaz's life away by killing his daughter.
